About Me

Like a lot Choice Moms, I spent most of my reproductive years focused on my career. Oh sure, I dated, but never met the right man. I still hope to meet that man someday, but now I'm focused being a mom to my little boy, born May 12, 2011. I started trying to get pregnant in January 2010. I had two IUI's with the fertility drug Clomid that resulted in BFNs. In March I took a new approach, a pill called Femara and a shot called Gonal-F. This resulted in a BFP on April 13! Sadly, an ultrasound at 9 weeks and 2 days showed that I'd had a miscarriage. I started this blog after my miscarriage, to help me heal, and to share my story with others who may someday experience a loss of their own.

You can find my story leading up to my miscarriage (before I started this blog) here:

In August of 2011, not long after I'd returned to work from maternity leave, and when he was just 3 months old, Finn was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.  He had surgery to remove the tumor, but the surgeons could only get about 30% of it.  Amazingly enough, every last bit of the tumor they got was necrotic (already dead).  His oncologist says she's never seen anything like it before, but it appears as though he's fighting off the tumor on his own, without requiring any chemo or radiation to do so.  He continues to get regular MRIs, and so far all the news continues to be good!

This blog started as a miscarriage blog and turned into a pregnancy blog and then a mommy blog as I expected.  I never expected it to turn into a child with cancer blog, but it did, and I guess it will continue to be that to some extent, since he's going to be getting MRIs until he's 7.
And then my life (and blog) went in another direction entirely, as I tried to conceive baby #2.  After 3 failed IUIs and and not a great response to meds, I decided (at the age of 41) to give up on my own eggs and try using donor eggs.  I got a BFP with my very first embryo transfer, and now Finn is the big brother to little Zachary, born 2/7/14.  I'm pretty sure I'm done with family building, so now I'm going to be blogging about life with two little boys. This is not the life I expected and yet it's better than I ever dreamed possible.

  1. Wow, what a lot you and your little man have been through. I myself am a 'miracle' childhood cancer survivor, and now blog about multiple pregnancy loss and still trying to reach our rainbow with a living baby. I wish you all the best with conceiving #2, and hope that Finn continues to defy the odds!
