Second Beta!

The nurse who called me back for my labs this morning was the same one who left me the message on Wednesday that I was going to get good news.  "I wasn't supposed to call you, but I was just so excited I had to!" she said as she gave me a huge hug.  Then another one of the nurses passed by and Libby called out to her, "Shannon has good news!" and so I got another squee and another huge hug.

I didn't have to wait as long for my results this time; just after lunch I heard from RBA, my beta has almost doubled from 251 to 495.9.  That's close enough to doubling for me!  I've got another beta next Friday, and I guess I'll get an ultrasound the week after that.

I'm a lot less worried about this pregnancy than I was with Finn's, but I'm still feeling pretty cautious.  I didn't realize how cautious until I was talking to my mom about my plans to move next year, and she told me she thought I should wait to move.  "But if I have another baby, there just won't be any room at all."  I didn't realize I'd said "if" until my mom corrected me, "You mean, when you have another baby." I don't think I'm going to fully believe it until my ultrasound.  It's not that I'm worried something bad is going to happen, but that somehow there's been a mistake, and I'm not really pregnant.  Absurd, I know!  But I feel like I'm such a faker, that I'm not really pregnant, and we're soon going to discover that my labs and HPTs were mixed up with someone else's.

Though my heartburn is starting to make me believe that it might really be true.

  2. My sister-in-law said she felt like a crazy lady who was going to lie about being pregnant and then steal a baby after 9 months. :) I guess it is hard to believe.

When I first had Felix, I felt like a "fake" anytime I went out with him in public and couldn't believe people believed he was mine.

  3. I am so excited and happy for you! And I totally get the feeling of, maybe it all being a mistake. I kept thinking that my pregnancy wasnt real until someone who got pregnant around the same time I did had her baby. that freaked me out, and I realized that I should go ahead and plan as though this was going to work out... Else I would be totally unprepared, you know, like buy diapers and burp cloths?

Or as cmgr said, feeling like a fake. I was always a little worried that people would see me nursing my wild-squirrel-monkey-child, for example, and think to themselves how I really didn't know how to be a mom... Too funny. To this day, I still think it is funny that the hospital let me take M home with me, just walk outa there like she was mine!

  4. Wonderful news on Beta #2! I didn't share the news of my pregnancies until fairly late (mostly to avoid having to address it professionally- my work and personal lives overlap). I was pretty successful at putting it out of the forefront of my mind, especially with #2, when I was overwhelmed with caring for Fiona during her recovery. All that pregnancy stuff takes a lot of energy!

I'd say if you are going to move do it sooner rather than later. Life is going to get a helluva lot crazier with two!

  5. Yay for beta 2. I hid mine for a long time. Hoodies go a long way :). I was almost five months I think. I'm worried about space in the long run too. Especially with different gendered children. They won't be bothered for a few years. But I'm in a 2 bedroom condo an I drive a small ford focus. But for now it's going to work. Some extra shelves in the closet and a new toy shelf and we are good to go. The bonus here is no stairs. You can make small spaces work. Maybe move when the kids are a little older.

  11. Congrats! Great news on the beta doubling! I still kinda feel like a fake. Like, how could I possibly really be a mom?! That's crazy talk! But somehow, it seems to be true. So sorry about the heartburn... that made me miserable when I was pregnant! Tums helped sometimes... Can't wait to hear about your u/s!
