Mother's Day

Sneaky Sheathbill
Last year on this day, I was just over 7 weeks pregnant for the first time, and less than two weeks away from learning that I’d had a miscarriage. When I calculated my due date for this pregnancy, I never imagined that I’d end up being pregnant two Mother’s Days in a row. I know that first babies are usually late, but I was really expecting that the facts that I’ll be 40 in less than a month and older women tend to deliver early would balance that out a bit. On top of being uncomfortable, the pregnancy anxiety is starting to get to me – I really hope Chiquitito decides to come before I end up a nervous wreck.

Wishing everyone out there who is already a mom a very happy Mother’s Day! And for those of you still healing from a loss (do we ever fully heal?) or still trying to conceive: I wish for you a Mother’s Day in 2012 very different from today, one that you’re finally spending with your baby in your arms.

  1. Happy Mother's day Shannon! I hope you have someone who can help celebrate you today (aside from the one kicking all your internal organs).

  2. Happy Mother's Day! Your little Chiquitito seems to be liking his current digs, but hopefully his curiosity on what's going outside will get the best of him. Like tomorrow :)

And I second your wish for those ttc or suffering a loss.

  3. Happy Mother's Day! I'm sure you are uncomfortable and anxious, but just remind yourself that you are within days from meeting your baby boy. Take it one day at a time, being REALLY good to yourself!

  7. You became a mother the instant you became pregnant, so HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

If Chiquito stays in any longer we may end up giving birth on the same day! I'll be checked tomorrow, so I'll know how close/far away I am.

    Isn't it sooooo exciting!!??
