I have a little less than 5 weeks to my due date, and about the same amount of time left at work. My plan is to work up until my due date, or until the baby is born, whichever comes first. I have three more weeks of a slightly reduced schedule at the office, and one weekend of call, followed by the last two weeks having about 14 patients a day (instead of my usual 20-26). I hope I can make it that far! Even with the bad stuff going on at work, I still love my patients. Including the 59 year-old who asked me for medication for his ED this morning, and then asked me out on a date. And especially the little old ladies who chastise me daily for still wearing high heels. I'm not sure that I'll have time to miss them, but I do feel a little guilty leaving them in the care of other doctors while I'm out for my 12 weeks of maternity leave.
I woke up in the middle of the night last night and thought, "It's possible that I just went to the movies without having to arrange for a babysitter for the last time for the next 10-12 years." I think it might finally be settling in that I'm going to have a baby soon! You'd think after 35 weeks, I'd have gotten used to the idea already.

It hadn't truly settled in that I was having a baby until I was holding Elena in my arms, lol!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the next guy to ask you on a date will be 35 years old - and not need any medication at all - and perhaps he will bring a dvd to your house so you won't need a babysitter!
ReplyDeleteIt still surprises me that someone let me get pregnant in the first place! Who knows when I'll actually feel like a mom.
ReplyDelete35 weeks. Already! Can't wait to meet your little one.
WOW!!! i can't believe you are 35 weeks!!!! that's SOOOO exciting!!!
ReplyDeletei can't wait to hear all the details of labor, birth, post partum... everything you're willing to share!
i'm still hanging out, approximately 100 days behind you... looking forward to getting to double digits on my "Lentil Counter".
yay Shannon!
and, um, congratulations for being asked out at 35 weeks pregnant.... by one of your patients?
Ah, the ED patient asking you out on a date made me tee hee out loud ;) I remember my mom telling my sister (a younger el ed teacher) to stop wearing the heels, and her saying that she knew it was bad but they felt more comfortable than the flats did.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm late to the party and now it's 34 days--but whoo hoo 34 days!!
35 weeks!! that's great! You're definitely in the home stretch!
ReplyDeleteThat is a crazy thought (movies)! You're almost there--it's got to be a great feeling.
