| Happy Easter! |
How is it possible that I can feel so blessed to be able to be so miserable?
*********
My list of the Things I Couldn't Live Without during pregnancy:
- A large, reusable ice pack – my back hurts all the time, and 20-30 minutes cuddled up with my ice pack keeps me going. The bigger the better - there's a lot of places that can hurt back there!
- Colace and Gas-X - I think these are self explanatory
- Cottonelle wipes and Tucks pads – use them every day (provided the Colace is doing it's job, that is). My bottom is eternally grateful.
- LeachCo body pillow – this is an enormous pillow: there would not be room for another human in my queen sized bed with this pillow, which a reason to be glad to be single and pregnant, because this pillow is amazing. It supports both my back and front, and continues to do so when I turn over, without a lot of pillow rearranging. I can lay halfway on my back, on my side, or almost on my stomach and feel supported. Two cons: the fabric pulls a little too taut at the inside bends in the U at the top and tends to dig into my neck when I sleep. I solved that problem with a very smooshy and thin feather pillow that I put just inside the U; and it does get hot – but I just keep the ceiling fan on and I’m fine. Unless the cats want to cuddle, but that’s a whole other story.
- The Boppy Wedge – this has really only be necessary the past few weeks, but it has been a lifesaver now that my belly is so heavy. I wedge it under my belly, and the rest of the wedge fits under the body pillow. It would have been annoying to need this earlier in pregnancy, because it requires moving it when I turn over, but I can’t turn over now without waking up anyway, so it works out ok.
- Ice cream. Lots and lots of ice cream.
- Palmer’s Cocoa Butter – the skin on my boobs itched horribly my first trimester, until I started using this stuff. And later in pregnancy, the skin on my belly tends to get dry and flaky whenever we go through a growth spurt. This stuff is so moisturizing and gets rid of the itch almost instantly. I use it twice a day (sometimes three if necessary) and just love it. Definitely better than all the expensive stretch mark creams I’ve tried, with the added bonus of smelling yummy. And so far - no stretch marks! (Though I fully anticipate that to change after delivery.)
- Maid service every two weeks. Nothing better than not having to bend over to clean the floor right now. If only she'd come and clean the litter box every day.
- Cole Haan heels with Nike Air – I splurged towards the end of my first trimester and bought myself a pair of these in two inch heels (black patent leather). I have worn them to work almost every day for the past 3 months, and complain every time my outfit dictates I wear something else. My back and feet feel better wearing these shoes than running shoes or flats. Really.
I'm sure there's more, but these are the big things that really stick out in my mind as being the most wonderful.

I'm with you on the ice cream (pregnant or not-pregnant)! Can't get enough of that stuff. If you want to skip a day of Colace, I suggest Blue Bunny's Peanut Butter Panic. It tastes so amazing, but cleans you out the next day :-P
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry your back is hurting. You are SO dang close. Hope your next post is Chiquitito's beautiful face!
Wonderful post! I think I might give the cocoa butter a go - not to mention the ice cream! BTW does the pillow arrive in discrete packaging? - I think I might wait a few months for that - I would just hate to have a huge box labelled "Maternity pillow" left on my doorstep just now!
ReplyDeleteI have two body pillows and the wedge. Such a great thing - I couldn't sleep without them. Sorry your back is hurting, for me it's my legs and hips.
ReplyDeleteI remember the End of Days: the body pillow became an appendage. It's the only way I could get half-way comfortable. Hang in there :)
ReplyDeletePS: Gave you an award at my site ;)
I used my wedge a lot in the beginning when my tummy wasn't that big and I slept on my side.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't have ice cream during my pregnancy which was almost the end of me.
While I was having contractions, I did find that a bath helped a lot. I only like hot baths so I went without them throughout the pregnancy, but I had a warm bath while I had contractions and that was absolutely heavenly.
I also liked the cocoa butter, but I hated the consistency so I did make the boy apply it a couple of times a day (twice during the week because we had to work).
I think your body makes you super uncomfortable so it doesn't matter what anxiety you have over labor and delivery, you don't care. You're so uncomfortable, you'll do anything to get the baby out. :)
Hmm, methinks this might the beginning of it. When's your next appointment with your doc? I wouldn't be surprised if you were dilated a little.
ReplyDeleteThe list is great. The perfect summary.
ReplyDeleteI use the cream now and love it. It does smell great.
Ooooh, Cole Haans with Nike Air. Love, love, love those shoes.
ReplyDeleteDo you have heartburn? It goes away the minute the baby comes out. I promise.
Ice cream. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI tried to post a comment before, and it got erased somehow.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I'm so excited for you! And now, of course, am checking your blog every day to see if there's any news. The suggestion that your back pain could be labor was pretty inspired!
You will be back out here hiking any day now!
Ok I can't help myself, but I cannot wait to I click on your blog to see that you had the baby!! I've been checking your blog twice a day for the last week. I hope everything is going well!
ReplyDeleteI remember glancing at this post when I first started my process of becoming a Mommy. And I thought wow, I won't need this for a LONG time. Well here I am all pregnant less 6 month since first reading this. I was in the store and remembered this post. Thanks for the essentials! I am going to need them 19weeks and counting.
ReplyDeleteMaid service is a MUST I have to start that, becuase it is becoming harder and harder to bend over.. The joys of pregnancy :-)
