Not Super Mom. Just Mom.

I love donuts!
I'm not sure how'd I'd be handling life as a single mom without this blog - without a place to write things down and to get feedback from others.  I really don't.

It's finally really sinking in to me that life right now is different than it ever will be again, and that I really don't have to even try to do it all.  It's ok that I haven't made friends with the neighbors yet - there's plenty of time for that.  It's ok that we stay at home all weekend.  It's ok that I'm wearing the same clothes over and over again because nothing else fits. It's ok for me to say no to extra projects at work.  It's ok that I can't be super mom.

This is my time to be a mom to two small children, and I can't do it all. And that's just fine.

I am trying to find ways to incorporate more activity into my days, though, because I really need the outlet.  Someday I can get up a little earlier and work out in the morning.  But that day is not today.  What I'd love is an elliptical trainer in my house, but a) I'm not sure they're safe with two young boys, b) I don't really have a good place to put it, and c) I don't have the money to spend on a really good one.  Does anyone know of some sort equipment that folds up or is relatively small that I could do some aerobic activity on?  A stepper or something?  I think I might actually do it if I could watch tv at the same time.

Zachary had his 4 month check up on Monday.  He weighs 20lbs14oz and is 27.5 inches long.  Holy moly!  That puts him bigger than Finn at this age, and in the 99th percentile for weight and length.  No wonder he's outgrowing some of his 6 month clothes already.

He's also found his voice - and it's loud!  This morning he and Finn were on my bed while I was putting on my makeup, and the noise was deafening.  It was wonderful.

  2. My New Year's resolution for 2014 was to survive it! As the mother of two small children I believe that's the most anyone can ask of me. Anything else is gravy :)

  3. When you see them together it makes it all worthwhile. Don't worry about the weight - it will come off when ready, don't worry about the mess - they will always be there, these moments will not. Enjoy the time with your kids, you are doing an amazing job!

  4. "This is my time to be the mom of two young children, and I can't do it all." That is going to be my mantra this summer--thank you. Love the picture of your two boys interacting. They will be best friends, you'll see!

  5. Okay, you're room is not a disaster. Not even close.

I like the tone in this post. Sounds like you're living in the moment which is probably a great place to be.

I saw some pics on Pinterest recently that have those at home workouts. 20 pushups, 20 situps, 60 seconds of planks... etc. I think these are probably a good way to get stong with not equipment and limited space. I feel a little guilty even typing this because I haven't tried one myself.

  6. I love Zachary's hair, the little root strands are so precious. Wierd comment, I know... But it's so cute. If you have an iPhone or something similar, there are a few good apps to excercise without equipment. I do the squats, push-ups and sit-up app workouts.... I do them even with the kids climbing on me. Fun and challenging enough to feel good afterwards.

  7. I think realizing that you can't always do it all and don't have to be super mom is key. It's too easy to put pressure on ourselves and then possibly wind up disappointing, but you are doing a fabulous job from what I gather reading your blog! They are such cute boys and they look really happy.

  9. I have the same problem with exercise. My only time is evenings, and my apartment too tiny for much equipment. Do you have a bike? I'm thinking about getting a bike trainer, which turns your regular bike into a stationary one. After the workout you can put your bike back out on the porch or garage, so it doesn't clutter up the house. Although I do hear that they are pretty loud.

  10. I have a treadmill that folds up. I keep it in the garage and have a $30 used TV out there too. The nice thing is the residual energy I get from working out. After a brisk 30-minute walk, I come back inside and clean, do laundry, etc. I never feel like sitting down and watching TV. My only chance to work out is after bedtime, too.

  11. I can't believe how big Zachary is -- he's outgrown M already! I love that photo of your boys together. So sweet!

  12. Total random comment - I know you used an egg donor, but Zachary looks SO much like you :) I'm a month behind you and dreading my return to work as a doc as well. The weight will come off, but I've seen it take 18 months due to hormones, so patience. Take care of yourself, you are feeding a monster!

  13. I love your attitude! Enjoy being with your boys. That is the best thing. If I could add a picture, I'd put one of this great t-shirt I saw (and saved the pic) :-)

  15. Know what makes your super mom? The fact that you realize you can't be and don't need to be super mom. You just need to be Zachary's and Finn's mom. They think you super-duper! What everyone else thinks...simply doesn't matter!!!
