| "Baby Chimichanga in Finn's tummy!" |
Tuesday is my anatomy scan. Over the past few weeks, I've revisited the time immediately before and after my anatomy scan with Finn. It's such a pivotal moment in a pregnancy, at least it is for me. The moment when a few of the maybes and possiblies become realities. The moment when the list of potential names is cut in half, when I know if I should pick up that cute pink onesie in the store, or go with the blue one, when I can start using he or she instead of he/she or it. When I can tell Finn, "your baby brother" or "your baby sister" instead of "your baby brother or your baby sister" (which usually results in me being corrected by Finn, "baby SISTER.")
I'm not going to lie. I'm going to be a little disappointed if it's another boy. Not devastated disappointed (as I have a suspicion I might be a better boy mommy than girl mommy - and boys are pretty darn great), but disappointed nonetheless. So these last few days - hours - of not knowing are a little bittersweet. If I find out that Chimi is a boy, I'll feel a pang that will quickly pass, but it's almost nice to be where I am right now, not knowing.
Almost nice. But not nice enough to decide to wait until the baby is born to find out! I have been talked into a gender reveal party at work, though. I was already feeling a little disappointed that almost everyone will find out via text, call or blog, and almost no one will hear the news in person, so I'm glad that I got talked in to this! A drug rep friend is going to have a cake made for us at work - I'll call her after the scan and let her know the gender, and then she'll bring the cake by for lunch on Wednesday. That means I'll have to keep the secret for a little while longer at work (which will be hard, I know they'll be pestering me!) and I'm going to delay my announcement on Fac.ebook by a day. I still haven't made this pregnancy FB public, yet, as I'd decided to hold off until I could share the gender at the same time. Another day won't make a difference, I don't suppose.
And now I need to get back to studying. Blergh.

My fasting sugars were always slightly higher in the mornings when I didn't have a night snack before going to bed. Kind of strange huh?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the anatomy scan, hopefully he/she will cooperate and give you a good look!
I remember feeling the same way before I found out I was having a boy because I kind of wanted a girl (even though I was pretty sure I was having a boy). When I was pregnant, I thought it would be "easier" to raise a girl as a SMC because I know what girls go through. Sometimes I still freak out about dealing with boy "things" when my son gets older. In the end, I truly believe that we get the babies we are meant to have. There are so many pros to having another boy for Finn, but it would be great for a girl to have a big, protective brother. (Either way, I'm a bit jealous Finn is going to have a sibling because I really wish my son could have one. Good for you!) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWow, your anatomy scan seems early. But so exciting. I can't wait until the big reveal. It makes everything more real when you know the gender. You can start picturing your life as a family of three with x boys and x girls. Why aren't all of us bloggers FB friends?
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you! I also feel a little guilty that I really, really want a girl...and will be disappointed if it's a boy. Mostly for dumb reasons like I like my girl name better than my boy name, and I'm afraid two boys will destroy my house. But like you I know I'll be happy with whatever I get! I figure it's just in the cards.
ReplyDeleteGood luck at the anatomy scan! I couldn't believe how excited/nervous I was right before the doctor told me Baby M's sex (although I found out at about 13 weeks, with the Harmony test), especially since I really felt like I would be happy with a boy or a girl. It's just such a BIG detail!
ReplyDeleteGood luck tomorrow...even tho I know I'm one & done, I also know that if by some miracle I get to be pregnant again, I will wait to find out gender until birth...just to switch it up...
ReplyDeleteFirst of all that picture is the cutest thing ever!
ReplyDeleteAnd good luck with the anatomy scan!
Ha - what a hilarious pic! You will get a lot of laughs out if this one over the years :-)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about being secretly (little) disappointed. Its normal to have a gender preference in one's heart. I did not want to be disappointed, so I convinced myself that I will be having a boy (rba seems to have mainly boys) but secretly I hoped it was a girl - and was thrilled when I found out. I have a feeling though based on your symptoms that its a girl.
Glad the nausea is gone. Good luck!!!!
16 weeks already? I can't believe how quickly time is flying!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the gender preference. I had secretly hoped that my little guy would be a girl, but now that he's here I can't imagine having any other baby. Can't wait to hear the gender reveal! :)
Yeah, 16 weeks! So happy to hear you are past the nausea, yuck yuck yuck!! Good luck with the scan this week, hopefully it is very uneventful except for the big gender reveal! I understand how you feel about wanting a girl, it is fun to have one of each. But if its a boy, your boys will be great buddies AND... boys love their mommy's so much!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you asre starting to feel better - good luck with the scan.
ReplyDeleteYay for Tuesday! And I'm so glad you're feeling better. Also that you've been prescribed carbohydrates. That's too awesome.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you end up having, it's so exciting to have the anatomy scan because it makes things seem so much more real! And once you have that boy or that girl, it will be hard to imagine that you used to want something else. I really thought I wanted two boys, but of course now I love my little girl!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Glad things are going well.
ReplyDeleteYeah!!! Sounds like things are going well.....
ReplyDeleteI totally wanted a girl the first time around, and was shameless about it. Then the second time, I wanted another boy so badly that I was nervous it would be a girl! I think it's refreshing to read /hear others admit that they have a preference.
ReplyDeleteYou're almost half way there! Hooray!!!
I'll say again that I've always pictured Chimi as a girl. Can't wait to find out!
ReplyDeleteI felt a few pangs after my level 2. All of a sudden my name list was cut in half--no matter what that I didn't have a gender preference, I was a little disappointed. The feeling didn't last, but I know what you mean.
ReplyDeleteExciting day! I hope that the scan went well and that Chimi decided to cooperate with the gender check.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you can be honest about your gender preference. I, too, had one, and some people seemed to think it was a bad thing to have a preference - "as long as it's healthy" and all that. I can't wait to hear about the big gender reveal party; that sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree with Little One that all of us bloggers should be FB friends. :)
