Perfect Saturday

I woke up this morning with a book being shoved in my face and a little voice commanding, "Read!" That led to a lazy morning in bed, reading story after story, until finally the command changed from "read!" to "eat!" and we headed downstairs for breakfast.

Finn after the show

Our day just got better from there.  We met our local group of SMCs for a wonderful morning at the symphony.  I wasn't sure how he was going to do, but Finn loved it!  He didn't sit still, but he watched the musicians intently, often dancing or bouncing to the music, and clapping and saying "yay!" a lot. When it was over, Finn surprised me even more by asking for more. An adorable 4 month old little boy and his momma were next to us, and he seemed just as captivated as Finn (except for the little nap he took towards the end).  I'm already looking forward to the next children's symphony, and plan on making sure Finn is familiar with the music next time, so he'll enjoy it even more.  We have such a great group of single moms in my area, I'm so glad I finally managed to join them at an outing with the kids.

After Finn's nap we met up with my friend Ali for a walk on the Greenway.  Ali and I have logged a lot of miles on that Greenway, training for half marathons and solving the world's problems while we did.  We spent many a long run talking about my plans to be have a baby; it felt a little surreal to be pushing Finn on those same walkways this afternoon.

Taking a break from the stroller
Seeing my friends interact with my son can be such an emotional experience.  I love my friends, but when I see my friends love Finn - see them talk to him, be silly with him, and make him laugh - it changes how I feel about our relationship, makes me love them even more and makes them seem less like friends and more like family. That sounds ridiculously sappy, but it's true.

It was a perfect day for a walk, and we ended up seeing a deer and a lot of ducks, as well as tons of dogs that were out for walks, too.  We ended our day with dinner, a quick trip to Tra.der J.oe's, and a short cuddle before bed.

I'm not sure Saturdays get much better than this.
