I'm not really sure what I do all day long. One second we're waking up and having breakfast, and the next thing you know, we're climbing in the bed at the end of the day. I would have thought that I'd be bored out of my mind, but I'm really not - perhaps it's because I'm so tired, I don't have the energy to be bored! I know my brain isn't working as well as it usually does; a few days ago I was trying to think of a song to sing to Finn and all I could come up with was, "My bologna has a first name, it's O-s-c-a-r, my bolgona has a last name, it's M-a-y-e-r...." He did seem to enjoy it, and now I'm craving bologna (and wondering how on early we ever got the pronunciation of "baloney" from the spelling "bolgona").
I'm keeping up with everyone, but not commenting as much as I usually do - most of my reading is in the middle of the night while breast feeding, and it's just too much effort to type one handed at 3am. It really bothers me, not commenting, so I hope I can get back to my usual routine with that soon.
I did get one task accomplished this week - I posted my nanny position on one of those online find-a-caregiver sites. I posted the position yesterday afternoon, and right now I have 50 (yes, fifty) applicants. There are all sorts of responders - those who say they're only looking for part time work (did they even read my posting?), those that live an hour away, a 70 year old, a few 19 year olds, a 20 year old with 10 years of nanny experience (really?), a few who speak Spanish (huge plus in my book) and a "manny" who just moved here with his partner. My head hurts, just thinking of sorting through them all. That's definitely a task that can wait until tomorrow.

I don't have a baby and I haven't got a clue what I do all day when I'm home. I can only imagine when I have kids.
ReplyDeleteA 70 year old. Yikes. My dad is 73, he's very mobile, but I had to put itch ointment on his bug bites before work the other day. Apparently the only thing he could think of doing is scratching them.
It's going to be the manny. I've read it's great for kids.
I keep thinking about you two... wondering if you got a nap or two in today... wondering how fussy Finn was... or if he managed to eat every 3 hours. I would have changed my flight in a heartbeat if I could have. Miss you both!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I sang him the Oscar Meyer song this morning while you were in the shower. He likes it. I swear.
ReplyDelete50 applicants?!? That could take forever to wade through! Hopefully there are some winners in that bunch! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. The only song that would ever pop into my head was 'Father Abraham'. I'm sure Jett would have preferred the Oscar Mayer song though.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the nanny search!
Good luck with the nanny hunt, not an easy task! And Happy Birthday!! Sorry I missed it and I hope the next decade is as much fun as the last :)
ReplyDeleteWow! I am amazed you can think, read, anything. Sleep deprivation really screws with your brain. I am glad you are well if fuzzy headed. It sounds like Finn is an opinionated little man. I wish I were closer; I would help out in a heart beat. Check out the manny. That always sounded cool to me. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe manny could be a great way to get a male influence ...50 applicants though, I can't even imagine how you're going to sift through them all & choose!
ReplyDeleteI have no problem thinking of songs to sing...my problem is remembering the words!! I end up making up most of the words or doing a medley of songs, singing the 1st few lines of a bunch :)
50 applicants? Wow! Hopefully you find some good candidates in there. Day cares in my neighbourhood have such restrictive hours and unless you have a 2-parent family it isn't doable to drop your child off at 8, commute 45 minutes to work, commute back and pick up your child at 4 or 5. I have to put in my hours at work too. So, unless I can find a great place that has longer hours I think I may have to go the nanny route too.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I actually like about my sister having had kids first is that I've been reminded of all the stuff from childhood like songs that I'd completely forgotten about. Not that my memory will necessarily be great post-partum but at least I'll have something to go on. And honestly, at this age Finn doesn't care what the words are. He just likes to hear his mommy sing to him. ;-)
Foxie tok a page from Finn's book this week. I am so feeling your exhaustion. Your lullaby cracked me up. I remember singing to my niece about rusty cars, she loved the song.
ReplyDelete50 applicants seems daunting but also encouraging that you will have your pick.
Hope Finn starts giving you a little more sleep and your week alone goes smoothly. I have been on my own for the most part for a month. You just get less done and the house is messier.
Charlie is 9.5 months old now, but in September - when I was where you are - I oly kept up with Facebook/twitter/blogs on my blackberry while I nursed. I felt like I was still in the loop without missing out on time when Charlie was awake. And I was in the same boat with you about singing. I couldn't remember a single song except for the recent one by Cee-Lo with the expletive in the title. So I ended up singing him a bug commercial from when I was around 10.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the nanny search. It sounds like your pool of applicants is promising, despite the few looney ones. We had a great nanny selected and ready to go and two weeks before I went back to work she moved three states away. So I elected to go for day care and luckily found the best one with the most fabulous people.
Best of luck on the nanny search. I know my friend has a live in nanny and she's pretty much become a part of the family over the past 4 years. She found her through a nanny agency. Can't wait to see more photos of the Finn-ster. :)
ReplyDeleteAt least you'll be able to narrow that nanny pool down a bit by eliminating the ridiculous ones! And I laughed about your song. I mostly made up songs when J was little, for that same reason, but I but a had a friend who looked up the lyrics to "Mama's Gonna Buy you a Mockingbird" when her kids were babies.
ReplyDeleteI miss your commenting, but I understand!
I love that song! Fingers crossed that Finn gets on a nice schedule this week and you find the perfect nanny!!
ReplyDeleteI have been amazed that you have been commenting at all!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the nanny hunt!
Great now I'll have Osc.ar Mey.er and Father Abraham running through my head the rest of the evening ;) You are lucky to have such wonderful friends, but you must be wonderful too or they wouldn't be there in a heart beat :) I often think that once I have a lo the time during the day would seem to go by slow too. But I'm sure the months won't seem that way :( Enjoy your crazy hazy days with your too adorable son :)
