I spent most of the weekend working on my house. I doubled the storage space in my kitchen by installing pull-out drawers and baskets, and put a new undersink rack in my bathroom. I emptied out a dresser I’m getting rid of, and put all the (currently) unneeded clothes into a storage bin, then rearranged my storage closet to accommodate the storage bin. I put a hanging closet organizer in the nursery closet, and put all my hand-me-down clothes away. I have a bin full of baby stuff that I’ve been accumulating over the past few months, and all that was put away, too.

And now I’m exhausted.
I did find myself wishing, once or twice, that I had a husband helping me. It would have been nice to have someone else carry all the empty boxes to the dumpster or deal with drilling holes in the back of my cabinets, or carry things up and down the stairs for me. But then I thought about the nice things about today without a husband. I don’t have to consult with anyone on where we should store the diapers, or sleepers, or baby shoes. I didn’t have to watch endless pre-Super Bowl specials this afternoon. And I could eat that bowl of ice cream in the middle of the day with no one raising an eyebrow at my indulgence. (Ok, these aren’t all that spectacular, but I had to find something good!)
I still have about a weekend’s worth of work left to do just to get the stuff I have now taken care of, and make room for all the baby stuff to come. But finally I can walk through my place and tell that things are coming together!
Speaking of baby stuff, I registered last weekend at the two big baby superstores in town. My sister went with me, and, armed with the Baby Bargains book and J’s intimate knowledge of all a baby needs, we scanned our way through the stores. I tried to follow everyone’s advice and register for everything I could possibly think of that I need for Chiquitito’s first year, and I tried hard to avoid anything I think I can do without. I’m amazed at the number of things – little things - we found that I HAVE to HAVE. How can one little baby need so much stuff? But I have to admit, it was incredibly fun, even though it took us hours. I’m pretty sure we had more fun than most of the married couples going through the store…at least we looked like we did.

Sounds like nesting to me...or just plan organized!! As exhausting as it all is, it feels great at the end of the day, eh!
ReplyDeleteYour shelves look super organized! Very impressive.
ReplyDeleteYour baby will have "So much stuff" - because he is so well loved - and quite frankly - because he can!
I have often thought in doing home improvements - "renting a husband" would be a much appreciated service.
I love you nesting lady! It's all coming together, and I know it would be so much easier with a husband, but truly friend - you are doing incredible!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have so many things accomplished and checked off the to do list. Sounds like you all had fun with the scanning gun, as you should :)
ReplyDeleteI can't remember if you already received this award, but regardless I nominated you on my blog :)
ReplyDeleteSounds very productive Shannon. And fun. And I am über-envious!! xx
ReplyDeleteYou've been busy! Let me know when you're ready to come to Nashville and I will get my cabinet-organizing stuff. :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have been keeping yourself busy the past few days. I'm so excited for you as you are getting closer and closer! I can imagine and just see you and your sister going through the stores registering for everything. I'm going to have to check out those books/lists.
